Meet Susanne Riva
Susanne Riva specializes in transparent watercolor painting. Her unique and delicate style of using watercolor in their true transparent nature has made her realistic renditions popular nationwide and overseas. Susanne Riva studied at the Kunstschule in Hamburg, Germany, and then painted under the guidance of George Mally (A.W.S.) in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Riva currently lives in Northern Virginia, where she continued her art education and painted independently to develop her own strong individual style.
Having won numerous awards for her work, she has participated in many solo shows including several at the National Wildlife Federation Gallery of Art. Ms. Riva was also a top print-seller at the National Zoo Arts Festival and the Southern Maryland Festival. In addition, her picture, Cherry Blossoms, with the Jefferson Memorial, was designated the official 1997 Cherry Blossom Festival print by the Parks and History Association in Washington, D.C. Her picture, Chickadee on Dogwoods was also selected as a National Wildlife Federation Conservation Edition.
Ms. Riva’s prints were recently presented to several top officials of the Korean government, including the Minister of the Ministry of Health & Welfare and the Ministry of Labor. Susanne Riva is an artist member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and has illustrated books for Westview Press. Ms. Riva’s work has appeared in numerous publications. Her painting of a sunlit girl blowing a bubble was described in the press as “altogether charming and a textbook perfect example of how to handle the difficult medium” of watercolor.
